Old Year. New Blog.

December 31, 2009

So here we are. 2009 is limping to a close and here I am with my minty fresh new blog. Seems to me to be a perfect opportunity to look at some of the highlights of year just gone.

It was only last winter that my little garden studio got up and running and was christened with a job for Shuropody, the UK’s leading footcare retailer. Working with the very talented designers at GoldDen, we did a session with models in the studio then went out on location. The final shots are all over their website and in stores up and down the country.

I was also asked to cover the Royal Mail awards ceremony in May and shot pubs and landlords for Burton-based brewers Marston’s via Vital. But it hasn’t all been big brands this year, I’ve had a great time helping some fantastic up and coming companies sell their wares.

Shooting the delicate creations of Pod Floral Design, the vibrant and quirky wedding stationery of Bijouwoo, stunning cupcakes by The Urban Bakery and a range of quality kitchen textiles for Ochre & Ocre have all been an absolute joy to do and I’m proud to have been involved with them all.

I had my busiest year of weddings yet. July, August and September were a bit of a marathon – covering ceremonies in London, Kent, The Cotswolds and all around Warwickshire. Without exception, all the couples that chose me to capture their day were a pleasure to be around – and it shows in the photos.

My slightly more racy and glamorous alter ego, Raquel Rouge was busy too. A number of ladies came into the boudoir for a full make-over experience and, together with Jeni from Hush Hush, we achieved some stunning images. And not all of them were for presents to husbands, boyfriends and Grooms-to-be, we found that for some people it was just something they always wanted to do. Good on them.

2009 also saw me become the official photographer at Darkteaser’s Garter Lounge. Getting unrivalled access to this fabulous burlesque night in Leicestershire has really been a blast. I have met so many talented performers, made a few new friends and got some great shots.

The Garter Lounge job also led to being asked to road test a brand new high-end Hasselblad camera for Calumet at a studio shoot with five burlesque performers and what felt like a crew of hundreds.

As my Gran would always say, ‘Shy bairns get nowt’ and so I have also been working hard to get my name out there this year. It would be remiss of me not to include a massive thanks to my in-house designer husband Craig and Ian Davies at Acid for all their hard work getting not one, but two, new websites launched and to Paul Beacham for updating the old one.

So there you go. My first post, along with a new year’s resolution to make sure it’s the first of many.

Well, a few.

Happy New Year – RS x
