Wonderful Winter Weddings
When I started covering weddings I thought the work would be pretty seasonal, but in the last couple of years I’ve been surprised at the number of marriages I have been asked to photograph during the winter months.
There are obviously some financial advantages to getting wed out-of-season, and as many venues and suppliers are booked years in advance it may be the only way keen couples can have the event where they want and how they want it.
For me a winter wedding takes on a different vibe from the summer ones, colours are richer, cheeks are ruddier, the mingling is closer and cosier and there is always an abundance of white fur.
While everyone loves chilling out with the wedding party on a balmy terrace as the sun goes down, there’s something equally magical about the atmosphere of happy guests clinking glasses of mulled wine around a log fire.
It’s true that a dull day means I have to be a bit more creative on the lighting front, but equally, a bright summer’s day with its harsh shadows and squinting guests brings it own photographic challenges. And with the British climate being what it is, there’s no season you can guarantee a rain-free day.

Capturing little details for the album add an extra dimension to a series of wedding images – though I’m sure people wonder what I am photographing at the time
Who knows what weather the rest of the year will bring, but whatever it is doing, I will be out in it.
I’ve met some truly lovely and inspired couples over the last few months I can’t wait until I’m out at their fantastic venues across Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, and the Cotswolds photographing them as all their plans come to life on the day.

The rich contrasting colours look fab – love the pic of the umbrellas.
